THE PASS PROGRAM

P roviding A cademic and S elf-esteem S upport

The PASS Program is characterized by an on-going, one on one, year long commitment by a parent or community volunteer who is matched with a particular student. The volunteer is asked to meet with the student weekly for 30 minutes during normal school hours. The volunteer spends time with the student in an effort to build trust, provide encouragement and help build his or her self-confidence. The program was designed for students who may be at-risk now or in the future of falling behind academically or socially. Studies show that this type of on-going personal involvement does work to enhance the education of children and clearly impacts their decision to remain in school as they continue in the educational system. Positive experiences now may impact future success toward graduation! Mentoring a child is a powerful way to make a difference.

For more information, or how you can become a PASS volunteer or refer your child to the program, contact me by phone or e-mail. New volunteers will be given training, need to complete an application with references and have a clear TB test documented. All volunteers must be approved by the Jefferson County Board Office.
