Blue Ridge Education Association By Laws

Article I

The name of the association is the Blue Ridge Education Association (BREA).

Article II

The objectives of the BREA shall be:

  1. To promote the welfare of the children of the Blue Ridge Campus.
  2. To bring into closer harmony the parents and teachers so that they may cooperate intelligently in the education of our children.
  3. To develop partnerships between educators and parents ensuring an optimal education for all students on the Blue Ridge Campus.

Article III

The basic policies of the BREA shall include:

  1. The association shall work with the school to provide quality education for all the children of the Blue Ridge Campus.
  2. The association shall seek neither to direct the administrative activities of the schools nor to control its policies.

Article IV

Membership and Dues:

  1. Membership in this organization shall be made available to any individual who subscribes to the objectives.
  2. Only members of the association shall be eligible to participate in business meetings or to serve in any of its elected or appointed positions.

Article V

Officers and their election:

  1. Each officer shall be a member of this association.
  2. Each officer may have a co in any given year.
  3. a. The officers of this association shall consist of President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer.
  4. Officers shall be elected annually in the month of May.
  5. Officers shall assume their offices following the close of the meeting in May and shall serve for a term of one year.
  6. A nominating committee of three members shall be appointed, by the President, in March and report at the meeting in April. Following the report of the nominating committee an opportunity shall be given for nominations from the floor and a ballot shall be prepared for the May meeting. Members must be present at the May meeting to be elected.

Article VI

Duties of the Officers:

  1. The president shall preside at all meetings of the association and of the executive committee; shall perform such other duties as may be prescribed in these by laws or assigned to him/her by the association or by the executive committee; and shall coordinate the work of the officers and committees in order that the objectives may be promoted.
  2. The Vice President shall act as an aide to the President and shall perform the duties of the President in the absence of the officer to serve as chairman of fundraiser committee.
  3. The Secretary shall record the minutes of all meetings of the association and shall perform such other duties as may be delegated.
  4. The Treasurer shall work with the principal and school secretary on submitting of funds from fundraisers, monitor the approved budget, request a budget expenditure from the school secretary, request in advance of monthly meeting a detailed expense report from the school secretary and present said detailed expense report at the meeting.

Article VII


  1. Regular meetings of this association shall be held the 2nd Monday of each month from the beginning of September to May. Dates may change with prior notice.
  2. Members present shall constitute a quorum for the transaction of business in any meeting of the association.

Article VIII

Executive Committee:

  1. The executive committee shall consist of the officers of the association, chairs of all standing committees, and the principals of both schools.
  2. The duties of this committee shall be to transact necessary business in the interval between meetings and such other business as may be referred to by the association; to create standing committees; to approve the plan of work of the committees; and to approve the paying of bills.
  3. Regular meetings of the executive committee shall be held; the time being set by the President and the Principals.

Article IX

Standing Committee:

  1. Such standing committees shall be created by the Executive Committee as deemed necessary to promote the objectives and carry out the work of the association.
  2. The chairman of each standing committee shall be selected by the executive committee.
  3. The chairman of each standing committee shall present a plan of work to the executive committee.
  4. The President shall be a member ex officio of all committees except the nominating committee.

Article X


  1. These by laws may be amended at any regular meeting of the association by a two-thirds vote of the members present and voting.
  2. The officers must consist of at least one parent from each school Blue Ridge Primary and Blue Ridge Elementary. When there are no parents interested from either school the officers may be from one school.
